Suffering from Shyness or Social Phobia? Here are Tips to Overcome Them

myselfhelpdiary social phobiaShyness affects most of us at some point of our lives. Usually, young people find shyness difficult to overcome as they improve their social skills. Some people seem to persist shyness into their adult life as if it becomes a habit.

Shyness is rooted in self-conscious and usually flourishes as people get mature and become experienced. On the other hand, for some people it can stick, and then actions are needed.

Although most people think overcoming shyness it is more likely that you will become confident in social situations by learning the techniques of self-confidence along with social skills. Shyness will no longer be an issue because social nerves will go away.

Difference between Shyness and Social Phobia

Social phobia is where you experience natural shyness. It is natural to feel timid in a situation where you do know the rules yet or you do not know what to do. Most people experience nerves when meeting some friends, especially in a place where they have not been before, or some new friends will be there. We should not assume that there is wrong with this because social nerves are normal as long as they do not get out of hand. Focusing on them will make things worse.

In social situations, young people have the chance to find their own way without labeling them with social phobia. This does not mean that social phobia does not exist because there are people suffering from it. On the other hand, in most cases, the remedy is social skills training. Rather hand drugs, perhaps rehearsal and relaxation is needed.

If a person can maintain calmness in a situation, then he will learn about how the situation works. On the other hand, if he is anxious and focused internally, both emotional state and focus of attention will make it hard to pick up subtle social cues.

The other technique in overcoming shyness is about unconscious process. This does not imply that you should fall asleep when you are doing it. It implies that most of human communication is nonverbal. It is not what you say but it is the way that you say it. If you become anxious, then this will focus your conscious mind on your immediate environment. This will get in the way of those unconscious processes.

Effective Tips to Overcome Shyness

You should practice being fascinated by other people. Ask them about themselves and focus when they answer you. Pay attention to what they have to say so you can talk about them later or on another occasion.

Great socializers make other people interested and comfortable. So how do they do that? By being interested with other people! If you are talking to a person and you feel boring, then ask why. Is it your fault?

Use few personal pronouns when talking about things. Sentences starting with I will turn off a listener. They will also keep the attention on you that will only increase shyness.

The way to beat shyness is to concentrate elsewhere such as imagining what it will be like to enjoy a social event or how it would feel to be full of energy and have a good conversation with someone.

Overcoming shyness is doing the things that make you enjoy social events and not wondering why you feel shy.
