Improve Your Life Experiences

You need a 7 Day BrainwashIf you ever take a look at the people who seem to get the “most” out of life, it is usually the people who attempt the most. The first example that comes to my mind is in sports. In any team activity I have ever played, the best player on the team is usually the player who attempts the most shots or plays.

Being willing to attempt is one of the most important ingredients to success in all areas of life.

Unfortunately, many people are hindered by their overly cautious attitude. Whether they avoid speaking up in a board meeting, skip the sales call to the difficult buyer or shy away from asking an interesting person on a date, the end result is a lost opportunity.

The root cause of this overly-cautious, inhibited way of life usually comes down to learned behaviour. If you have always been a “conservative person” who analyzes every action and potential outcome before acting, you will continue to operate in this mode unless you consciously decide to change.

The people who take action and try new things are very often the most exciting people to be around. They have a rich variety of life experiences and other people are naturally magnetized to their stories of action, adventure, triumph and defeat.

If you feel frustrated or inhibited in one or more areas of your life then take a few minutes to consider what is really causing this result. How are you limiting yourself?

I remember a friend of mine telling me about a colleague in his sales division who constantly won all of the sales awards every year. The only thing this guy did differently than everyone else was that he simply tried more things. He would offer to meet clients in off hours, perform additional services beyond his call of duty and even introduce his clients to new people who they might be able to do business with.

This kind of person never waits for permission to try new things. They treat life as a series of mini-experiments and use the feedback from each action to evolve and adapt to their environment.

How much better would you feel if you ignored your inhibitions and just tried something totally new and different? This doesn’t require intense therapy or training. Join a social club or sports team, send a funny youtube video to your clients, take a photo of yourself doing something wacky and post it on Facebook, be the first person on the dance floor when you go to that next wedding.

All you have to do is choose an area of your life that you feel is lacking and take a bold action to stir up your results.

Practice a new response

You need a 7 Day BrainwashSince we were kids, all of us have understood the value of practice. If you want to get good at hockey, reading, piano, singing, or any other engaged activity, you have to practice.

Practice is defined as the application of a skill repeatedly or regularly in order to improve or maintain one’s proficiency. I think most people would agree that the highest achievers in an area of life are those who practice the most.

How does this apply to our every day lives?

If you think about your overall quality of life, it is basically made up by the accumulation of moments. Each moment you are expending energy in a certain way. Sometimes you are in a positive state and other times you are negative; and there a varying degrees of intensity in between.

Most of the time, we are all operating on auto-pilot. What I mean is that we are going about our day and we react and respond to events based on how we have conditioned ourselves to do so. If we have spent the majority of our lives practicing an anger response when things don’t go our way, we have become very proficient at being angry. Likewise, if you have spent the majority of your life reacting with laughter to various events and circumstances, you have become proficient at maintaining positivity.

This is a great place for any person to begin when it comes to improving their life so that it works… on all levels.

How do you do this?

Start by doing a basic assessment of your results. Are you constantly in a state of stress or anxiety? Do you constantly feel frustrated or upset? For any result that is not positive, examine what you have been practicing in that area of your life. If your current result is that you get angry and upset whenever the slightest thing goes wrong, think about how you can practice changing that result. You can actually begin looking for the next “opportunity” for something to go wrong so that you can practice a new response. Just like learning an instrument or sport, it may not go smoothly the first time but it is a start. Then you do it again and again and each repetition gives you an opportunity to get stronger.

In a relatively short period of time, you can develop an entirely new skill set that serves you better and improves the overall quality of your life. Try it. Challenge yourself. And see how your results change over time.

Get rid of negative beliefs

You need a 7 Day BrainwashOur beliefs form from a very early age, and can affect how we see ourselves and our place in society; you will have beliefs around how much money you will earn, beliefs about how you are as a parent, child, sibling or partner, beliefs about where you live and so on. Many of these beliefs will be subconscious- you won’t even know that they are there. If your intention contradicts this subconscious belief, then your subconscious mind will be sending out vibrations which will push it away and you will never attract it.

No matter what our beliefs are, we will always find evidence to support them- because we will attract it! If you believe that you are meant to be big, for example, you will remain overweight despite all attempts to diet, which reinforces this belief. If you believe that you are not smart enough to run your own business, all your attempts to start a business will fail, until eventually you say See? I told you I am not smart enough to run a business’.

Many people buy self help book after self help book, convinced that the next one will be the one which changes their life. However, whilst they are carrying limiting beliefs, nothing will change. They may get all fired up and make a good start, even seeing some improvement, but within a few weeks they will fall back into their old habits. In order to make the law of attraction work for you, it will be necessary to identify any negative beliefs and eradicate them.

Vision boards

You need a 7 Day BrainwashWhat is a vision board? It is a collection of pictures, words or photographs of all the things you want to attract into your life, usually fixed to a large sheet of card or pinned to a large cork board.

A vision board can be a very powerful tool to use to manifest your desires. It is best placed somewhere you are going to see it often, such as next to your computer monitor, in your bedroom or your kitchen. Some people choose to have more than one vision board, in different locations at home or work.

You should also spend some time looking at the images on your vision board- look at the images at least once a day and visualize having them in your life. Allow yourself to feel good and try to get into the feeling place of having them in your life right now.

What Images should be on Your Vision Board?

Think about what you want to manifest in every area of your life and find an image which you associate with actually having it. For example, if your goal is to own a certain make and model of car, find pictures of the exact car you want on the internet or in magazines. Put the picture on your vision board.

Want to travel? Look through brochures and on the internet and find pictures of the places you want to visit. Want to lose weight? Find photos of yourself at your ideal weight or else find images of people with the figure you want or pictures of clothes you will wear at your ideal weight. If you come across any quotes or poems you find particularly inspirational, or which make you feel good, put them on your board. If you can’t find an image you want, draw it- don’t be put off by thinking you can’t draw!

The images on your board should mean something to you, and should make you feel excited and positive about your intentions. A vision board is an evolving process; you may achieve one intention and need to update it, or you may realize that you no longer want a particular intention. Of course, you may find more intentions to add!

If you want to see examples of vision boards people have created, search Google images for vision boards’. Hopefully you will feel inspired to create your own!

Are you getting enough sleep?

You need a 7 Day BrainwashWhen living a stressful lifestyle or experiencing an unwelcome amount of stress, getting the full quota of sleep is important. If short-term sleep is deprived or if generally suffering from insomnia, it can make life a whole lot more difficult as irritability, a lack of tolerance and even depression can weigh heavily making even the easiest of tasks appear difficult.

Setting up a sleep schedule will help to make falling asleep a little easier. This means going to bed about the same time every night where possible as this builds up a positive sleep pattern and subconsciously aids deep sleep. Setting up a regular routine immediately allows the individual to become use to this pattern of behaviour, so there are less concerns about how to get off to sleep.

It’s easy to over-think about work, life, and any particular problem or even fret about the next day’s events and these thoughts can be reason enough why sleep is evasive. Mix this with raised levels of cortisol which is linked to chronic stress and the reason for a lack of sleep becomes obvious.

If a difficulty in falling asleep is experienced initially, ensure that no stimulants such as coffee or alcohol have been consumed. There is nothing wrong with having a drink but they have been proven to interrupt a sleep pattern. To start off with, the individual should avoid any stimulations and ensure that the bedroom is warm and inviting, with low lights, no drafts to disturb and no external noises.

A few drops of pure essential Lavender Oil can be added to the pillows or to the quilt as this is conducive to relaxation.

When the mind and body feel too tense for sleep to come, try a progressive relaxation as this can help ease out the tension that may be unknowingly held within the muscles and once this is released, sleep should come naturally.

Lying flat, with eyes closed, take the attention to the feet and ankles and deliberately tense them, holding the tension for a few seconds. Release the tension suddenly and the difference will be noticeable. Then systematically work through the whole body, tensing the calf muscles and the knees, then releasing. Next, focus on tensing the thigh muscles and buttocks, and then release. Working up the body, abdomen, chest, the arms, neck and shoulders (where many people hold tension) even the face and scalp should be tensed and then relaxed. Ensure that the whole body is subjected to this progressive relaxation technique and afterwards, much of the muscle tension will have been dissipated.

This can be done every night or at any time to suit.

Determine a Definite Major Purpose (DMP) for your life

You need a 7 Day Brainwash“Cherish your visions and your dreams as they are the children of your soul, the blueprints of your ultimate achievements.” Napoleon Hill

In my opinion, the most important step anyone can take in the development of themselves and in the development of their potential is to determine a Definite Major Purpose (DMP) for their life!

If you really think about it, the most successful people in the world do this instinctively. Some of them may be well aware of the importance of having a major purpose in life while others just happen to stumble upon their purpose and never give it a second thought before diving in.

What are some of the characteristics of a DMP?

-It is work you would do whether or not you were paid

-It is something you have passion for

-It is something that YOU believe to be very important

-When you hold the vision of yourself engaged in your DMP, you feel excitement and joy

-It is work that you would like to be remembered for…Your LEGACY!

Why is it, then, that so few people ever find a DMP for their life? Why do we see so many people who don’t enjoy their days and spend all of their time wishing for something more?

From my experiences with coaching clients and with my seminar audiences, one of the most obvious pain points I notice is the fact that many people have not decided what they WANT out of life.

This is not surprising. For the majority of us, from a very young age we were conditioned to follow instructions, do what others told us to do and listen to outside opinions. So we did. We did what we thought we were supposed to do. Our own wants and desires in life took a back seat to what were “supposed” to be doing to establish a safe and secure future.

For many folks, a critical assumption had been made in their life and it translated to a mindset of lack and personal limitation. The assumption is that I cannot make a living doing what I love to do.’

By assuming this statement as an absolute truth, we see millions of people in our society accepting the fact’ that their dreams in life are unrealistic. Many people file these dreams in a

memory bank for safe keeping with the hope that one day, in the distant future, they will be in a position to be, do or have their heart’s desire.

If you happen to fall into the above category, or even if you don’t, I would like you to consider the following question:

“If you had all of the resources, money, self esteem, confidence and personal power to accomplish anything, what would you do?”

This is a powerful question to ask yourself because you are really talking about a higher purpose. You are searching for the answer to the following question, “What was I put on this earth to do?”

The exciting and empowering realization is that we all decide what our purpose is. It is literally up to us to decide what we want to do, what we want to dedicate our life to, find our own reasons for doing so and then pursue it.

OK, so figuring out your DMP in life isn’t exactly a trivial task. In fact, it took me 7 months of reading, studying, meditation, having discussions with people close to me and lots of introspection to finally decide I wanted to be a personal development speaker and success coach. Now, during this time period I certainly had an idea about what I wanted and the path I was on but I did not make a firm decision and set a clear goal (HINT for Lesson 2) until my 7th month of searching.

The point is, do not be alarmed, frustrated, overwhelmed or anxious if you don’t know what your DMP is. In fact, GET EXCITED by the fact that you are, starting TODAY, on a personal MISSION to figure out what it is you WANT out of life!

The Odds May Not Be In Your Favor

You need a 7 Day BrainwashStaying positive and goal-oriented is very easy to do when the going is good. The true winners in life are the people who can persist when times are tough and it seems the whole world seems to be totally against them. The real question is, how do you keep moving forward when the odds seem to be stacked up against you?

The first thing to realize when you are in this kind of situation is that EVERY person who has ever accomplished something of significance, was faced with a similar situation. This is a guarantee. The wealthy business person was broke and inexperienced at some point. The olympic gold medal winner was slow and clumsy in the beginning. The stage performer was in a low budget show forgetting her lines.

Some people must face greater hardships than others but no one is immune to it. And this is really the key to this lesson.

If you are in a situation right now where it seems like quitting or defeat are your only options, here are some ideas you can use to drive yourself forward and keep going.

Go to school on your leaders. No matter what you are trying to achieve, there is someone in the world who has very likely done it before. Success leaves clues so your job is to become the investigator. Find out what made these other people successful. More importantly, learn about their hardships and how they triumphed when the odds were stacked against them. Then…realize that you have the exact same abilities as that other person providing you are willing to do the things that person did.

Put it in perspective. A great example is someone starting out in business for themselves. Most businesses experience a pretty rocky road in their first few years. This also happens to be the period of time when many business owners give up. But when you put it in perspective, the hardships you are facing at the start of your venture likely pail in comparison to people with real challenges. There are people struggling with addiction, physical handicap, family breakup and so on. There are people in these situations who maintain a positive outlook and still make the best of their life. If they can do it with severe problems, you can do it with relatively minor problems.

Ask ask ask. There is the old saying “ask and it shall be given”. The saying contains a powerful truth. People who have become good at asking for what they want and need in life, tend to get more help from others. When the odds are stacked against you, regardless of what you are trying to accomplish, there are people out there who will be willing to help if you ask them. If you are in need of help with money, resources, support, exposure or anything else, ASK. Ask a lot of people. Ask with conviction. Ask with passion. If you ask enough people…you WILL find the support.

The key thing to remember in this whole discussion is that you are an achiever. If at any point in your life, the odds are stacked against you and success seems like a distant dream, you are doing something RIGHT. This is a sign of your courage, determination and persistence. And in that sense, you are already successful.
